Diagnosis

Emily, one of our beautiful daughters and twin sister to Kimberly, was born with a condition called isodicentric 15 (15q11.2-13.3) or IDIC 15, also known as chromosome Dup 15q.

As with Emily, this chromosomal abnormality occurs “de novo,” it is not inherited and cannot be prevented. It “just happens” during the formation of the reproductive cells. Emily had an extra chromosome, 47 instead of 46. A piece of her 15th chromosome broke off, ½ of it duplicated itself, then inverted, therefore making the 47th chromosome.
